ABOUT US
The Special Projects Division (SPD) was created in 2016 pursuant to Department Order No. 359, dated May 10, 2016, with the aim of addressing the various concerns and needs of prosecutors, with the following specific functions:
The SPD is committed to advancing excellence within the National Prosecution Service (NPS) through strategic, responsive, and forward-looking initiatives. It undertakes the development and management of projects that respond to the evolving demands of the service, including career development and continuing legal education programs for prosecutors, as well as trainings, seminars, and other capacity- building activities for NPS support staff.
Central to its mandate is strong collaboration. The SPD coordinates and liaises with government agencies, private institutions, and development partners to ensure that its programs remain relevant, responsive, and aligned with national priorities. It also supports and represents the NPS in inter-agency councils and committees within the criminal justice system, working closely with key institutions such as the Office of the President, the Department of the Interior and Local Government, and other critical justice sector bodies.
In addition, the Division acts on requests for official and personal attendance or participation of prosecutors and support staff in meetings, conferences, seminars, lectures, and similar activities, facilitating opportunities for professional growth and meaningful engagement. Since its establishment, the SPD has remained steadfast in promoting the continued professional development of prosecutors. Beyond learning and development initiatives, it has also initiated and supported the implementation of special projects aimed at strengthening institutional capacity and improving the delivery of justice. Through these efforts, the SPD plays a vital role in empowering prosecutors and enhancing the effectiveness, integrity, and responsiveness of the Department of Justice and the National Prosecution Service.
